Day 12: Fly Away Home...
Tuesday, May 16, 2000

Tuesday morning we woke up around 8, Randy was feeling much better, though still not back to normal and somewhat groggy from the medication. We grabbed a quick breakfast, managed to pack everything into our suitcases without too much struggling.

A quick (and I do mean quick) cab ride to the airport, checkin was a breeze and then we walked to the gate and boarded the plane.

Our plane is the middle one, ready and waiting.

The flight went by reasonably quickly, though our sleeping pills only provided about 4 hours of sleep, so we watched a movie (Boys Don't Cry) and read some magazines.

Towards the end Rick kept asking "Are we descending yet?". Finally the answer was yes. We arrived at the gate, and after waiting for all of the slow people in front of us, we got to wait 20 minutes or so for our luggage. Customs was no problem (thank goodness, given the amount of stuff we had bought!). A half hour cab ride and we were home!

Final Thoughts...

The whole trip was really amazing. I'd never been to Berlin before and was really anxious to see it, and I always love visiting London. The big difference on this trip was being able to do it with someone that I feel so close to. Rick and I got along so well on this trip, I don't think we really every annoyed each other even once. We are very compatible on how much we like to do in a day, and when we're ready to take a nap and recharge.

We both love to stop and look at architecture, to just sit and watch people go by, or to wander around remote neighborhoods and notice the subtle differences in the people and buildings from one area to another (or in the case of Berlin, the large changes!).

I really look forward to traveling around the world more with Rick, I think we have several countries in mind to explore over the next few years (though Costa Rica in the fall for our honeymoon is likely the next big trip we'll take).

Woo Hoo!!!!!! What a wonderful trip. I had such a great time. I can't believe we are back home already. Amazing seeing the contrasts between Berlin, London, and the Bay Area. I thought that the Bay Area had a lot of construction right now, well, nothing compared to both those cities. Over the last 2 weeks, I've seen some great architecture, and some of the ugliest I have seen. I am also in Love with the Tube, man that puts our transportation to SHAME.

Well, it feels good to be home and I'm not quite ready to go back to work but I guess that's life. I look forward to many more trips like this with such a wonderful travel companion.
