Day 1: Off to Europe
Thursday, May 4, 2000

After many months of looking forward to the trip, the day was finally here! We did some last minute packing at the loft up North, then headed down to Los Altos to get our hair cut and finish packing.

Our friend Brian graciously offered to take us to the airport. He arrived at 4pm and we made it to SFO in less than half an hour. Plenty of time for our 6:20 flight, we thought...

The line at the British Airways counter was huge. It ended up taking almost an hour and a half to get through it, by which time our flight was getting ready to board. We walked right on the plane and found that we were lucky enough to have an empty seat between us!

The line at the airport was a mess.

After settling in we each took one of the sleeping pills that a friend of our had given us, and promptly fell asleep for about an hour. We woke up just long enough to have dinner, and then pulled out the portable MP3 jukebox and fell asleep for about another 6 hours.

Sound asleep on the plane. Isn't he adorable?

After another hour or so we could start to see land. We landed in London and then had a three hour layover before our flight to Berlin. We both got about another hour of sleep in the airport (the large amounts of sleep did wonders for preventing jet-lag).

Our second plane.

The flight to Berlin was uneventful, only an hour and a half. We grabbed a taxi and headed into the city. Berlin, here we come!
