Tahoe Snowstorm
On December 28th we left San Francisco at around 1pm, headed for Tahoe. Little did we know the size of the storm that was headed in! We hit snow at about 3000 feet, reducing our speed to 15-25mph for the last 3 hours. The snow was blowing sideways, visiblility got down to 30 feet in places, and keeping track of the road was a chore. We had to stop a couple of times to scrape the ice off the windshield, and watching the rooster tails of snow spraying out from the wheels of Rick's Audi was wild. The 4 wheel drive made it very sure-footed. We made it to Kirkwood in about 5 hours, and found out later that the mountain pass 10 miles before Kirkwood had closed just after we made it through, whew!
Skiing on Sunday was amazing! There was 24-36 inches of fresh powder everywhere! It was hard work, but those long runs surfing on untracked powder made it all worthwhile! On Monday we skiied for a few hours on some great groomed runs, then decided to head back to SF early as another storm was expected in later in the afternoon. We made it home in just over 3 hours, quite a difference!
