Los Altos House

The system in Los Altos is in the Family Room uses three 15" NEC flat panel displays, driven by a PowerMac G4 computer with two extra video cards. A custom wood frame was made to surround all three and make them appear a as a single unit. The screens are bolted to the wall, the "stand" extends up from from the computer actually just hides the display cables.

The OS X "Pictures Folder" screensaver performs smooth transitions between the pictures on all three monitors simultaneously, eliminating the need for any special software. There is an "Airport" wireless card in the computer, allowing new pictures to be uploaded at any time.

The display system usually draws a small crowd when we have people over to visit. Waiting for the next image to appear seems to hold people's attention quite well. We usually have several hundred pictures cycling through for a given evening.
